Many of us are already aware of Women's History Month. March is also regarded as Gender Equality Month, which serves as a call to celebrate the history, contributions, and wellness of community members who are impacted by gender-based bias and oppression.

The Street Trust strives to uplift the livelihoods of all femmes, transgender and non-binary people, and women and girls this month and year-round, enabling them to feel safe and have fun when using alternative transportation.

One example is our WeBike Portland program, which offers participants a variety of free events and resources to support them with incorporating a bike into their lives. WeBike is open to anyone who does not benefit from cis male privilege. Does that include you?

We have monthly events and for the second year in a row, our March WeBike ride showcased bikeshare.

BIKETOWN provided us with a fully-stocked station at Moda Center and promo codes to use for the day so we could experience the joy of using BIKETOWN free of charge. What’s so great about BIKETOWN? Built-in lights, built-in locks, comfy adjustable saddles, convenient baskets, and electric assist! Not to mention the large service area for users not taking a small, organized loop ride like ours.

Since March 11th was also International Fanny Pack Day, we gave everyone TST fanny packs. IFPD was created in Portland in 2007 and is about donating food so we put our BIKETOWN baskets to good use and carried food to Urban Gleaners near the beginning of our six-mile loop around Portland.

We took our BIKETOWNs over several bridges: car-free and new last summer Blumenauer Bridge, the separated bike lane of the Burnside Bridge, and perfect-to-climb-with-e-assist car-free Tilikum Crossing.

We made a brief stop to show everyone the location of Adaptive BIKETOWN, Portland’s adaptive bike rental program whose goal is to increase access to cycling for people with disabilities. We passed out several BIKETOWN For All flyers–BIKETOWN’s equity program–to our riders and at Urban Gleaners which is one of our favorite things about BIKETOWN.

Our next event is a Bike Camping clinic on Saturday, April 1st. Read more and RSVP below.
